Delicious Meets Disaster

When does delicious meet disaster? On the frigid night of December, 17th, at PICCO, South End, Boston.

Dun Dun Duuuun.

We decided to check out this place based on recommendations and to take our visiting friends to try it with us. We were told PICCO stands for Pizza and Ice Cream Company, and so we were not sure what to expect. Upon entering, however, we found it to be a small restaurant with a warm and trendy feel. It had a bar and an extensive ice cream list. Beer, ice cream, pizza: what could be better?
Unbeknown to us, apparently Friday nights are quite busy at PICCO, and we had to wait an hour for our table. By the time they sat us, we were famished. Anything would have tasted good. We weren't prepare for how good, though!
We settled on the Alsatian and Sausage & Mushroom pies, lightly cooked.

Alsatian: their version of France’s tarte flambé, with sautéed onions, shallots, garlic, crème fraiche, bacon & gruyere
Sausage & Mushroom: sausage, mushroom, tomato sauce & fresh mozzarella

Just as each of the six of us commented that it was the best gourmet pizza we ever had, CRUNCH.

A filling missing and a broken tooth. It must have been some crust--even after being lightly cooked! For this misfortune to turn into disaster, of course the dentist plays his part: ordering a root canal.

Would we recommend PICCO, given the outcome we experienced? Definitely! Just remember, when delicious turns to disaster, make sure you have a trusty dentist on hand.
